It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. H. Bruce Williams on March 24th, 2017 at the age of 87 after a brief illness. A gifted surgeon, insightful researcher and engaging teacher, Dr. Williams served the patients and families of the Montreal Children’s Hospitals since 1962.

Dr. Williams was the Chairman of McGill’s Division of Plastic Surgery until 2007, Director of its residency program until 2010 and served as the Children’s Surgeon-in-Chief for 14 years. Congratulations to three outstanding members of the Children’s family on receiving honourary distinctions bestowed by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. For their contribution to their communities, Dr. Nicolas Steinmetz and Sister Virginia Lafleur received the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers and our spokesperson, outstanding donor, board member and star defenceman, P.K. The Institut de la Statistique du Québec’s data is clear: nearly one in four Quebec children between the ages of 6 and 16 are overweight, and 7% are obese. This worrisome situation is being taken seriously by the Montreal Children's Hospital. Fortunately, we can count on our outstanding partners to give a helping hand to combat this worrisome trend.
