The Children’s Foundation raises a generous $823,560 at its annual Golf Tournament

The tournament 'aced' it, thanks to its incredible organizing committee; two amazing Co-Presidents of Honour Mitch Garber C.M., and Grégoire Baillargeon, President, BMO Financial Group, Quebec; generous golfers, business leaders, and invaluable sponsors.

The 27th annual golf tournament at the Royal Montreal Golf Club raised $823,560 for pediatric care and maternal-fetal health. Since the tournament's tee-off in 1997, it has raised a very impressive $17.5 million.

“It is great to get together with colleagues and business partners to play a round of golf and, more importantly, raise funds to help sick children have a brighter future,” said Mitch Garber. “Today, more than ever, the health system depends on the community's generosity to support compassionate patient care, educational excellence, and research advances that improve the lives and wellbeing of sick children across Quebec and around the world.”

“It is an honour to support The Children’s, an outstanding institution,” said Grégoire Baillargeon. “The Children’s incredible team of health professionals and researchers is making a profound difference in the most vulnerable members of society, our children, and teens. It is inspiring to see the community rally for sick children and expectant moms.”

Coordinating the annual golf tournament is a monumental task. A huge thank you goes out to members of the tournament's organizing committee for their dedication and hard work: Charles-Edouard Morin, President, and George Alexopoulos, George Antypas, Matt Budd, Sammy Hammouda, Scott Jones, Ray Lacharite, Peter Morton, George Papp, Mark Pathy, Andrew Popliger, Greg Rokos, and Jason Tsadilas.

“The Children’s Foundation Golf Tournament has once again showcased the remarkable generosity of our community. The tournament, a hallmark event in our city, centers around our shared love of golf, healthy competition, and above all, our unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of sick children, teens, and expectant moms,” said Charles-Edouard Morin.

Helping young surgeons advance and refine their skills

Proceeds from the annual tournament fund surgical fellowships. Young surgeons worldwide come to The Children's to enhance their surgical knowledge and technical skills and advance innovative pediatric surgery. Fellowships also allow The Children’s to recruit the best and brightest young surgeons in Quebec.

The tournament also supports a patient navigation program or ‘Corridor of Care’ to improve care coordination, patient education, and access to community resources. The Children's Corridor of Care is being developed using evidence-based best practices and serves as a template for other pediatric centres in Canada and beyond.

“Every day, seven days a week, children and teens who are suffering from the rarest, most complex, and often life-threatening conditions walk through the doors of The Children's, where they receive the very best care available thanks to donors like you,” said Renée Vézina, President of The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Thanks to your support, sick children are regaining their energy and good health and returning to their mischievous selves! Because a bratty kid is a healthy kid. I sincerely thank Mitch Garber, Grégoire Baillargeon, Charles-Edouard Morin, and the organizing committee members. I am also grateful to our sponsors, whose generous contributions made the event possible. And finally, a big thank you to the golfers for your support!”
