welcome to the new children’s!

Marianna Simeone (journalist at CBC News), whose involvement in The Children's dates back many years, is proud to lend her voice in support of the construction of the new Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre. In doing so, she is also promoting The Best Care for Children Campaign of The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Long time spokesperson of The Children’s and well-know actor, Rémy Girard is publicly announcing the construction of the new Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre. What a wonderful way to support The Best Care for Children Campaign of The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation!

By the beginning of next year, construction of the new Children’s will begin on the Glen Campus in Notre-Dame-de-Grace. This essential project will benefit sick children in Montreal and all of Quebec.

The advantages of building a new hospital are numerous. New facilities will allow us to offer our young patients even greater care, in a healing environment specially adapted to their needs. This will include:

  • improvements in technology and equipment, allowing for faster diagnoses and less invasive treatment, leading to faster recovery periods;
  • private rooms, favouring confidentiality and ensuring the privacy and dignity of our young patients and their families;
  • better space management, permitting medical personnel to work in closer proximity to their patients.

In short, the new Children’s will be all that modern medicine has to offer and more.

Our medical professionals require a new building which will facilitate the prevention of infectious disease and in which state-of-the-art medical equipment may be easily installed. With a new and modern hospital, on the cutting edge of technological and environmental standards, we will be better able to attract and retain the best and the brightest in the medical field.

The Glen Campus

Situated on the northeast corner of Decarie and Saint-Jacques, the Glen Campus will include The Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal Chest Institute, and the MUHC Research Institute, which will comprise The Children’s Research Institute. The Glen Campus will be a registered LEED© (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) campus.

In order to be most effective in reducing costs, certain services and equipment will be shared with the adult facilities such as housekeeping, laboratories, the pharmacy, medical imaging equipment, and even human resources in times of greater need.

When? What?
Fall 2008 Following a rigorous qualifications process, two international consortia were selected by the MUHC to present submissions for the Glen Campus project. The two consortia are Groupe immobilier McGill and Partenariat CUSM.
October 15, 2008 The Quebec Government gave the definitive green light to the construction of the new Children’s on the Glen Site.
October 2008 - August 2009 The two consortia prepared and finalized their submissions. They had 44 weeks to complete this process.
May 2009 The landscape of the Glen site began changing in preparation of the major construction set to begin. Eventually, Decarie boulevard will be expanded and additional access lanes will be opened.
August 2009 The two consortia submitted their proposals.
Fall 2009 Analysis of the two proposals.
December 2009 The winning consortium is selected.
Early 2010 Construction begins.
2013 Year during which the doors of the new Children’s are expected to open!

Regarding Construction

The new Children’s will be built following a Public Private Partnership (PPP), a model widely used internationally. Under this model the MUHC will become owners of their new facilities, while the consortium remains responsible for designing, building, financing and maintaining the project.

Be a Part of This Extraordinary Project

The new Children’s has every reason to become a reality. This is why so many donors have already committed to The Best Care for Children campaign. These visionary donors believe in the necessity of investing in a new pediatric hospital. They have realized that our current facilities cannot offer the latest in modern medicine, and that our ability to offer ultra specialized care is impeded as a result. To these Founders, who have taken part in this project even prior to the first groundbreaking, we thank you! If you wish to take part in this special project, it is not too late to become a Founder.
