The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation, McGill University, the Université de Montréal and the Fondation du Dr Julien will establish two chairs in social pediatrics in the community, to be based in the Montreal neighbourhood of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. In a Canadian first, researchers will conduct a long-term study on social pediatrics in the community. This clinical practice has a proven track record, thanks to its founder, Dr. Gilles Julien, who has been practicing social pediatrics in disadvantaged neighbourhoods for nearly 30 years.

Opération Enfant Soleil is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 to raise funds for the development of high-quality pediatrics and to contribute to social health projects for children all over Quebec. The organization’s commitment to The Children’s over the years has been unwavering. Life saving equipment throughout the Hospital has been acquired thanks to the support of Opération Enfant Soleil.

When Petit-Pois and Guy-Mauve waltzed into 11-year-old Marjorie’s room on the sixth floor of the Children’s, the young patient played along as the merry twosome marvelled at the artwork she had produced during her almost-two-weeks at the hospital. When Dr. Guy-Mauve accidentally broke a small piece off one of Marjorie’s sculptures, the two flew into a frenzy of clown-esque distress and apology.
