The Glen site will be home to The Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal Chest Institute, a Cancer Centre, the Research Institute of the MUHC (which will include The Children's Research Institute) and the Shriners Hospital, in new state-of-the art facilities. Construction began in June 2010, and is expected to be completed in 2014. Today the Glen is home to more than ten cranes and nearly 2000 construction workers, making it the largest construction site in Quebec.
The project is being executed by the McGill Health Infrastructure Group, a partnership between SNC-Lavalin and Innisfree, headed by SNC-Lavalin. After an intensive process requiring input from hundreds of individuals at the McGill University Health Centre, including numerous health professionals from The Children’s, their vision will make Montreal home to the most state-of-the-art pediatric hospital in North America.
Already a leader in environmental building management and holder of a number of environmental certifications, the MUHC has committed to building and operating its new facilities to LEED® Silver standards: an international reference for sustainable development.
